I really don’t like the wind. I would go as far as to say I despise it! This winter has been a challenge for me with high winds, cold temperatures and more grey days than we are used to here in Colorado. I found myself getting grumpy and sporting a tude, a bad attitude that is. I was focusing on what the wind was taking away from me, and I couldn’t find a single upside to the wind, hard as I tried.
Today was such a day for my run. The winds were howling as I stopped to pick up my dog’s poop. As I pulled my glove off my hand so I could open up the poop bag, I saw that all the fingers were stuck in, with the exception of the middle finger glaring at me. I had to laugh.
I decided to take that to heart and change my focus. Rather than let the wind steal my joy, I would give it the symbolic finger. “Blow if you must, but I will enjoy being outside in the sunshine. Whip dirt into my eyes, but I will smile as my dog bounds through the snow. You cannot take my joy!” And with that, I put my glove back on, all fingers in their proper place, and continued to run. I couldn’t run fast against the strong winds, but we got our three miles in. So take that wicked winds!
